I just finished reading this book and I highly recommend you getting a copy. You can buy it on amazon here.

This statement really hit home...

As a parent, this has been very frustrating. I feel most of what Blake has taken from this has been negative. Though he has had a handful of absolutely wonderful teachers, the overwhelming majority did not understand him or the challenges he was facing. In their defense, a small majority wanted to help, but did not have the experience. However, the end result was the same, Blake continued to fall behind.

This is why I am constantly asking for districts to give teachers the education to know what to look for with dyslexia and the tools to help. Ms. Mellon is 100% accurate, most teachers do not understand what dyslexia is.

One very important statement that she makes is, You are your child's best advocate. I have said this too. You know your child better than anyone and if you think something isn't right, it is okay to ask questions and look for answers. Don't ever let anyone tell you anything different.
